Over the summer, LG showed us this…a beautiful, bright screen that… you guessed it… bends. Whoa! Revolutionary, right? What were they going to do with that technology? What were they building and making behind those closed doors? The excited tension was almost unbearable, but just a day or so ago, the answer was released. Let’s just say it isn’t exactly as “mind bending” as we would have hoped.
LG has created the LG G “Flex.” Slated to debut in November, this phone is going up against some heavy hitters in the mobile world and needed to really bring it’s A game. From what we can see, it brought something, but it’s more in the shape of a C, and definitely doesn’t bend.
Above is a drawing obtained by CNET from LG of it’s proposed new phone. As you can see, the only thing really exciting about it, is… it’s curved? That’s it.
Thinking this phone would “easily curve” to the natural shape of one’s face, this would be a big hit. I don’t know about you, but I actually don’t spend forever talking on my phone. I surf the web, look up stupid videos, catch up on the latest Miley Cyrus junk, text, play games, on and on and on, but I definitely don’t want to do that with a curved screen… that would be weird.
Now, I know it is a little early to form opinions when we haven’t even seen the thing, but I’m not the only one with concerns… just ask around. And what about my favorite place to put my phone… in my back pocket. Won’t this new curved business make things a little difficult? Had the screen truly bent, it would have formed nicely to my tush, but now I’m afraid I’ll break the thing.
The mobile phone industry is ruthless and intense and saturated. As technology progresses, phones will really need to adapt and push boundaries in order to stay in the game, but this phone doesn’t seem to be “bending” any rules.
