Are the gold iPhone 5S and yellow iPhone 5C truly the least popular?
According to a recent survey preformed by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), the gold iPhone 5S and the yellow iPhone 5C are the least popular…. but are they really?
The survey goes on to state the different percentages of color prefrences amongst buyers (the graph below shows their findings.) CIRP also noted a difference in the buying habits of genders when it came to the two iPhones. More males bought the blue iPhone 5C than females, while females predominantly picked up the pink color of the 5C over any other color. The results were closer for the iPhone 5S, where males preferred space gray and women preferred the silver.
At first glance this sounds like an interesting story, but under further investigation, I found this study to be a little, well, short sided.
According to a slew of angry tech aficionados, if we look at the numbers, only a 4:1 ratio of gold to the other colors of the 5S was available for sale when the new phones launched. The golds sold out instantly and have not been available since. Therefore, the opportunity to buy gold iPhones has not been available. For the yellow 5C however, that’s a whole other story. The 5C did not experience the same amount of shortages and has been readily available.
