So, you’ve probably see WWDC related news or #WWDC hash tags floating around the internet this past week, but you weren’t really sure what it was. Let me first start by saying, no, it’s not some weird play off WWJD (what would Jesus do), but actually, it’s Apple’s World Wide Developer’s Conference.
Now, you’re probably thinking….World Wide Developer’s Conference… “WWDC”… great, got it, but what does it have to do with me? I didn’t see anything about the new iPhone coming out, so why should I care?
Well, you should care (if you want) because it’s technology…. it’s innovation… and it’s all focused right around YOU.
That’s right! This year, Apple didn’t drop any hugely world rocking product or design bombs like the look of the highly anticipated iPhone 6, no, instead they actually exceeded expectations by completely upgrading their operating system, focusing on making your life BETTER!
Gasp! They actually listened to all your comments, concerns, applauds, and annoyances and seemingly have created iOs 8 to give you a better quality of life!
How revolutionary! :p
So, how have they done this? Well, they have created better apps and better ways for ALL your Apple devices to now seamlessly work together. They’ve updated how you can respond to text messages. You don’t have to leave the app you’re in anymore! Group messaging has also gone though a redesign, with the ability to name threads, add or remove people from a group message already happening. You will even be able to remove yourself from from a group chat or turn on “do not disturb” to stay in the group conversation, but not have your phone blowing up every second with everyone’s responses.
They’ve also created a few new apps, two of the ones most highlighted and beneficial to you being simply, Health, which like Samsung’s S Health, monitors and records your interested activities AND is integrated directly with the Mayo Clinc, which directly updates your app, should you get a blood test or something, and also provides DIRECT doctor to patient communication! The 2nd app, now this one isn’t necessarily something new, but will be super awesome to have right there on you iPhone is- HomeKit. Now, HomeKit will easily control locks, lights, camera’s, doors, etc. in your home. Say you forget to lock the front door… you will apparently be able to lock it from your Apple integrated phone app. Let’s just hope Apple has a pretty sleek anti-phone hack system in place for that one. Wouldn’t want you garage door going crazy!
Also, Apple finally debut its desktop operating system Mac OS X 10.10 on Monday, now officially known as Yosemite! For MAC users, a redesigned user interface moves OS X toward a cleaner look, similar to the appearance introduced in iOS 7. If you have an iPhone, you can place and receive calls from your Mac, and even receive text messages from non-iPhone users! Pretty cool!
Well there you have it! Some of the biggest highlights from WWDC 2014. Would Steve Jobs of been proud? We think so. How do you feel about these new integrated apps and technologies?
